Will the camera still work after the 2G/3G network has been switched off in Germany and other European countries?

Mobile network operators are phasing out 3G and 2G. Many of our cameras have been performing reliably in the field for many years – and that’s exactly how it should be with good hardware. This makes it all the more frustrating when external circumstances beyond both your and our control get in the way: mobile network operators across Europe are gradually phasing out the older networks. In Germany, the 3G network has already been switched off, and Austria and other European countries are now following suit nationwide.

As some of our trusted classics – such as the ICU Hunt, ICU Trap or the Mavoco Cam – rely on these older 3G networks will no longer be able to connect in the foreseeable future. We find this forced technological change just as frustrating as you do.

As your camera itself often still works perfectly well, we don’t want to leave you to cope with this change by the network operators on your own. What does this mean for the camera you’ve been using so far?

No automatic switch-off: We won’t switch off your camera on 1 January 2027. As long as there is still a compatible network operating in the area, it will continue to transmit. If the 2G/3G network in your region is switched off, the cameras mentioned will no longer work.

End of support on 1 January 2027: However, as the providers’ networks are being phased out, from this date onwards we will be unable to offer reliable data transmission, repairs, spare parts or trade-in options for 3G models.
